Shimer Alumni (Unauthorised) Historical Society

This is a collection of documents relevant to the history of Shimer College, an unconventional Great Books college, from its founding as the Mount Carroll Seminary in 1853 to its present-day existence as a small college in Chicago. Unless otherwise noted, these documents have been collected and digitized by members of the Shimer Alumni (Unauthorised) Historical Society.

This collection seeks to include a full set of official school periodicals that are now in the public domain, from the Seminary Bell in 1859 to the Shimer College Record of a century later, as well as a wide range of student publications, Shimerian ephemera, and other Shimer-related documents.

The collection currently includes full sets of the Seminary Bell, Oread, Annual Calendar and subsequent catalogs through 1950, and Frances Shimer Quarterly, in addition to numerous individual issues of the Frances Shimer Record and Shimer College Record.
